Donna’s Birth Story
Baby Amnah
Feb 2021
Gosford NSW
We had a baby girl named Amnah on the 8th of Feb ?
I’ll tell you a little about my birthing story because I know you enjoy hearing them..
I was over a week late and booked in for an induction on the 7th. I was given the gel at 7pm and started contracting straight away. I was contracting too much to be given the second dose of the gel and was actually over stimulated by it so was given some medication the next morning to reduce the contractions but don’t think it really worked. I was only 1.5cm dilated and waiting for a room in the birthing suite to have my waters broken & the oxytocin drip.
However I continued contacting and came into labour on my own. By 2pm I was 5cm dilated and gave birth at 7pm to a beautiful baby girl who weighed 4.7kg! (I was 4.5kg when I was born so maybe big babies run in the family ?)
I was pushing for over an hour to get her head out and had shoulder dystocia so the last few minutes of birth was pretty scary! I didn’t know what was happening as the room filled up with many doctors & midwives. They told me later that they used 4 manoeuvres to get our baby out. The team at Gosford hospital were amazing and I had an wonderful midwife who had only graduated last year. I was fortunate to have a natural delivery with no pain relief or cutting & no tearing which everyone was surprised about!
We didn’t know what sex we were having but I had a feeling my whole pregnancy she was a girl ? Amnah is almost 3 months and is very happy & healthy and such a joy. We are taking her on her first plane next weekend as we are heading back to WA!
Thanks Kasey for the hypnobirthing course, it helped us both during the labour & birth and made the whole experience really special.
