Lily’s Birth Story

It was about 7am on the 29th January, my waters started slowly leaking (had Meconium in my waters) called my midwife and had to come to get checked via ultrasound to see if waters were leaking.Yes, confirmed and hearing that from my midwife I instantly locked in, knowing what my body was about to go through I had to calmly prepare.
My partner went back home to grab everything, and my mum arrived shortly after 10am then partner came back too. They had to brake my waters and the surges went from period like cramps to intense waves of pain. But my body took over and about an hour later of moving from shower, to bath tub to bed, all the movements all the sounds and letting my body take control. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the water birth I wanted, her heart rate dropped and so did mine, I was pushing for now 2 hours and things needed to start happening, I thought I was pushing but baby wasn’t crowning.
We unfortunately had to birth via forceps, failed vaccum. I tore internally 3rd degree alongside episiotomy because of baby’s head size (who would’ve thought I had such a big baby). But alongside everything that happened I was so in tune with every surge (sorry to my partner for hearing the screams) the hypnobirthing certainly did help for a short period of time.
I unfortunately in the future when I have another I will never be able to get the water birth I dreamed of unless baby comes before due date. But my mum even thought I was sleeping during each surge she had to make sure I was okay!
After 3 hours of active labour Sofia arrived at 5:19pm, we didn’t get the golden hours afterwards as I had to go into surgery straight away, my partner cut the cord after waiting for it to go white, he got to hold her and didn’t let go of her until i came back from surgery. It was such an amazing feeling seeing my own family as I woke up again. I couldn’t go back to sleep that night, I held her the whole night and cried tears of happiness.
Thank you to hypnobirthing for helping me get through such an exhausting but rewarding time of my life.
