Jess’s Birth Story
Oakley Rose 8.4pound
40 weeks 3 days
Natural forcep delivery
Born 28/4/2025 40 + 3 day. 8.4lb. 52cm
Due Friday 25/4/25, I woke during the late hours on Saturday night with early stages of labour pain. By 2:30am I was unable to sleep through the pain before resorting to using the tens machine around 4:30am.
My contractions were 5 minutes apart for a minute. By 10am I had contacted the hospital to let them know I was going to be coming up that afternoon and proceeded to the shower where the pain subsided.
After getting out of the shower the contractions ramped up again to 3 minutes apart for a minute. By this stage I was ready to go to hospital. At 4:30pm I had an internal check done where I was 5cm dilated. I utilised the shower and bath along with my breathing techniques. I was in my own world that I lost track of time.
At 8:30pm I had another check done where I was 8cm and my waters were being broken by my midwife who then told us our baby had moved and wasn’t in the right spot.
I continued to stay in the shower were I worked with my breathing techniques to try and get our baby to move into the correct position, until the pain was too intense I had to ask for pain relief.
By this stage it was 25 hours of no pain relief, just pure breathing techniques and keeping calm, working with my mind, body and baby.
Once I received the epidural at 1:30am, my body went into a calm state again which allowed me to reconnect with my mind and body again,
I started to push for approx an hour, our beautiful little Oakley was born via a forcep delivery resulting in an episiotomy at 4:23am on the 28/4/2025.
It was the most magical experience I ever encountered and would do it 10x again.
Birth really doesn’t have to be a scary experience with the right mind set and breathing techniques.
