Hypnobirth Story of Aylah
We welcomed to our family baby Aylah. She is our third child however our first hypnobaby!
In the early hours of Sunday I awoke and had very light surges. I didn’t think anything of it and went back to sleep. When I then woke to start my day at about 7am I noticed I was still having those surges and wondered if it could actually be surges. They were very bearable and not in any way uncomfortable. At about 7:30am I decided to record the consistency of the surges. As they were about 4 minutes apart and since my second child arrived in 1 hour and 45 minutes [we live about 45 minutes away from the hospital (on a good run)] my husband and I decided to make our way to the hospital. I was not convinced at this stage that I was actually having surges because I was still able to get on with things and they just weren’t painful. Upon arriving at the hospital, I walked in casually and told the maternity staff I had arrived. They took me into a birthing suite and we agreed to go on the monitor to check for uterine activity. Sure enough I was having surges and was 4-5cm dilated.
I found it was easier to not have anyone around me so that I could do this. I must have only been in the shower for about ½ hour when I felt a sudden shift. I knew that my baby had moved and was ready to be breathed down. I found that my slow breathing just didn’t feel right so I attempted my birth breathing. It just felt right. Amazing. I told the midwife that I was ready to breathe the baby down so I left the shower to take position to breathe her down. I am not sure the midwife believed that we were ready, but I knew. I just started breathing down with the birth breathing. I was doing this for about 20 minutes and I could feel her ready to come out but it was like something was holding me back. Turns out my membranes hadn’t ruptured. We decided that the doctor could rupture them for me. (The exact same thing happened for my last 2 births). As soon as my membranes were ruptured, Aylah came straight out with my next few breaths. She happily announced herself as soon as she arrived with a big beautiful scream that only lasted for a second as if she was saying, “hello, I am here”. She started feeding almost instantly and was very content.

The experience was just wonderful. No drugs whatsoever and in fact I didn’t even think about having them. I felt as if I was in control the whole time. I was working with my body and it was telling me what stage we were up to. It is very hard to explain and even to believe until you go through it. I want to thank Melissa for all of her help leading up to my birthing day. I was getting a bit nervous as the day was approaching and had a lot of questions but she helped me through it. Of course I realise now there was nothing to panic about because everything was perfect.
